ART§CHOOL

The recreation of the school for art.

EdDFA

To be considered for the EdDFA, students must complete all the MFA requirements with a grade ‘b’ average or already hold an MFA from another school; they must have the approval from an advisor and fill out an application that includes the following:

A statement of intent (3 pages);

An official transcript, with at total of least 25 undergraduate and graduate credits in art education classes;

2 letters of recommendation;

A portfolio that exhibits exhibition experience;

A willingness to investigate the nature of scholarship through their studies.

This course is a research degree that is operated as thesis centered. Students are assumed to be intent upon focusing toward a career within higher arts education, either in teaching, curriculum or in consultancy. EdDFA students will be closely working with an advisor whilst establishing the grounding for their research, the development of their thesis title/question and the form that this scholarship will eventually take. The majority of the course is determined by the students’ initiative. It is expected that students will continue thier art-making practice, and bring this into their research where applicable. It is also expected that students will engage in teaching classes whilst with ART§CHOOL.

ART§CHOOL actively promotes doctoral works that are rigorous investigations into alternate forms of scholarship, and will happily accommodate students needs as far as possible. This degree will be limited to a term of 3 years’ study and will culminate in a public display of thesis work along with the submitted doctoral dissertation. This may be either the students’ work or some related aspect of their research. This exhibition can take any form that is relevant and progresses the thesis.
